Bullet Speeds

In real life, bullets leave a gun at something like 3 miles a second (I think) so Insta hit bullets on some weapons would be pretty realistic. You don't dodge a bullet in real life, you just make it harder for them to aim at you by moving.

In real life you get taken down pretty easy by a bullet. In real life no one would want to play because there odds of lasting more then a couple seconds in a gun fight would be slim at best. Real life is not fun. Thats what games are for.

There are about 5600 feet in a mile. The muzzle velocity of most modern hand-held guns is nowhere near a mile a second. They're probably around 1/2 a mile a second, possibly 2/3rds. So, no, instant hit bullets aren't terribly real unless you're right next to what you're shooting at. Just watch some old Desert Storm videos showing the US fighters on night missions. When the ground batteries fire tracer rounds, you can clearly see them going through the air. Those tracer rounds are moving fast, but your eye can still pick them up.

theres 5280 feet in a mile

and also, most modern assault rifles fire at velocities of around 800 1200 feet per second.

so we're talking at around 4.5-7 seconds to travel a mile

*plug*

Sniper rifles typicle muzzle velocity is over 1/2 mile/sec =p for the Bolt Driver's purpose =p

I dont care if/how instant bullets are, as long as it's fast enough that theres no tribes-1 repeat, where you see the muzzle flash of a bullet 3 seconds before it hits you when you arnt that far away, but i do agree instant bullets at 1 1/2+ miles is rediculous even in the PS world for a physical projectile

i was talking about assault rifle velocities, but if u want to into long-rifle (sniper rifle sounds like it should stay in the video games) velocities, the m82 barrette .50 cal (about as powerful and fast a muzzle velocity ur gonna get with modern day long-rifles) fires at a muzzle velocity of about 2000 feet per second, so even this hard hitter does not approach 1/2 mile a second.

Yeah, wasn't sure specifically the muzzle velocity of modern assault rifles (I know dick all about guns) but I knew it wasn't even close to a mile a second, let alone 3 miles a second.
