clan tags/visiblilty

So all outfit tags are visible? Does that mean if I have a platoon waiting in the treeline outside a base that everyone can be seen? That means no surprise attacks. And say I'm marching to a base by myself or with a squad and we see an enemy tank. Does that mean we can't duck and cover instead of being eaten alive by a tank? I guess my question is actually, are the clan tags visible all the time? Or do they just appear when you put your targeting reticule over them?

Visible all the time, I can nearly guarantee the system is going to be a lot like what you find with MMORPGs, and generally I don't think tags exposing you is going to be TOO much of an issue. There will still be plenty of places to hide and use cover.

Based on what I understood from interview, and the MMORPGs I've played...

The OUTFIT NAME will appear below the character name. This will only be visible if you are within a certain radius of the character.

I haven't heard anything about OUTFIT TAGS being displayed...but that just could be cause I haven't read the right thread.

If you are worried about people scanning the horizon for enemy names/tags and targeting you, I'm sure they've already addressed that.

Even if they haven't, you always have cloak...

that is true but having a tag will be annoying at some points. if you really need to set up a sneak attack and someone spots you. that would cause a problem. they should make it so that only your empire can see the tags from afar and the only way for a tag to bcome visible to another empire is to be upclose.

To clarify, he is right, the full name is displayed, not the tag.

And names aren't displayed unless you're quite close - though I do believe advanced targeting ups the range on that.

In short, stealth is possible, don't worry. And if it's not, some of us are going to tear the devs a new hole.

I'm pretty sure I've heard it was the other way around... Maybe I'm wrong, showing the names would defintly be the best way - since you can see the outfit decal.

Also I hope that you wont see (outfit) names throgh walls, that would suck - Don't think the devs would be that stupid... Would rule out a wall hack though, since it would allready be in the game

Outfit Tags: Currently it shows the full outfit name under your name. Enemies will show outfit tags, but not names, unless you have advanced targeting implant. You also get logos on armor and vehicles.
(from another thread)

hmm, you say somthing different there.. I'm just gonna go check with the dev interview...

Ok, I checked it.
Dave says that you'll only see the outfit name of enemies, unless you have the advanced targeting implant, then you'll also see the name.
He does however say that he's not sure.

What I meant by tag, was name, I just chose bad wording. Will edit that right now.

Arrow What I think...

Ok I read around and I got something totally different out of all those posts and news reports.

I think you can only see the names and outfit tag of people in your own empire. You can not see any name or outfit tag on enemies from another empire, unless you have advanced targeting you can see the persons name and health under your aimer. So I would not be worried about your name poping up b/c the enemy can not see it. If I am right then this would also work so you can tell friend from foe in a dark area.

Sorry if I am wrong, and please clarify so I can stop being confused.

I'm sure a number of people would be real pissed if you couldn't, say, hide behind a rock, and your head is covered, but your name is still floating for all to see...any tag like that might as well be an arrow pointing straight down..
