Unhappy Thoughts On Darklight Vision

What do you think about darklight vision? I think it could make stealths near useless unless done right. I'm hoping that when it's turned on, the user will have horrible normal vision but can still see the stealths. When I say horrible, I don't mean bad, I mean horrible. The reason being that almost everyone will be using these because they are scared of stealths. If everyone uses these and there is no major downside to using them, stealths will become useless! So what do you think about darklight vision?

If I remember, dave explained it decreases how far you can see and makes it difficult to see normally.

Darklight Vision
Greatly reduces your normal visibility while simultaneously shifting your perceptions to allow you to see cloaked enemies in an area around you.
. . . .
I could never figure out why it would make you less visible .
"it decreases how far you can see and makes it difficult to see normally"
Now I understand.

It's fair, IMHO. And I don't think everyone will have it. Personally, I wouldn't be worried about Stealthers. I mean, honestly, why be worried? They won't pack a lot of firepower, and once they attack you'll know more or less where they are. It'll be unlikely for one to be able to kill you one-on-one unless you are having a bad day, and/or wearing crap armor and using a garbage weapon.

Also, if you're out in the wilderness, there's virtually no chance you'll get attacked by a Stealther. Your only real worry would be when you're defending an installation. Now, I know what you're thinking... that's where Darklight will screw you. And, you know, I agree. If you, as one guy with a Stealth suit and a non-rifle weapon and knife goes into a base guarded by more than one enemy, you should expect to die, Darklight or not. So how do you counter this? Tactics and coordination. Use a team of Stealthers. Overwhelm the enemies. Surprise is your weapon, not brute force. If you can take them on at least 2 to 1, your chances of success are much higher.

Every time I see a post like this it tickles. The scale of the game is what will make stealth useful, not an overpowered stealth capability. Everything in the game needs a very bad weakness that can be exploited under the proper circumstances, stealth included. The same way that a Galaxy will remain useful despite being an big slow target and the sniper remains useful despite being poor against a hardened target, the stealth will be useful despite being easily spotted with darklight and/or sensors.

Use your skills well and you will succeed. Use them poorly and your corpse will be punted across the battlefield. As it should be.

i just want to know if going stealth is an on/off thing, or does it sap from some energy source (which runs out over time and must regen)

hopefully its just an on/off type deal. otherwise i think stealths wont be too useful if you have to uncloak-recloak all the time.

A stealth on a stealth buggy will be an important point man for any sizeable assualt squad. Let's say that we have 4 tanks, and a couple of Minivans on our way to assualt an enemy base. If we had a stealther upfron scouting for us we would have a better chance at flanking the enemy, and taking the base.

This game will put more real life sort of tatics into use then anything we have ever played before.

I was under the impression its always on.. but there was a time I saw a guy cloaking walking out of his buggy. He stopped up against a wall and went visible.. then I unloaded on him..

So to be honest, Im not sure what the deal is with it.
