The people have spoken. Kill cams

PlanetSide 2 asked what people thought about kill cams on Facebook. Within about an hour almost 500 people said fuck no to kill cams. Even people that have never played planetside can see that there is no place for kill cams in a war game like PS2. After a response like that, how could they keep it?

Dunno. I'd rather have a view of my corpse than the person who killed me in most situations.

But every modern FPS has kill cams, and players expect it.

The funny thing is that even none PS players don't want anything to do with it in PS 2.

A kill cam showing the person who killed you just doesn't have a place in a game like PS2.

In CoD its fine. In PS2 its not.

It ruins the immersion, gives away positions in long persistent battles. Encourages people to be more cautious. Kill cams reward you with intel for DIEING, while punishing the person that got the kill.

Facebook is far from a good metric for measuring whether it's a good thing or bad thing. As soon as a few answers have been made a hive mentality occurs and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Once a bunch of people have said no to it creating a prevailing thought anyone for said idea will keep their mouth shut rather than get the following hate and/or ridicule. It's standard group think, same occurs over on reddit all the time, thankfully one well written proper argument involving critical thought can usually dispel the groupthink there.

As we saw here, more than half are either for or indifferent to it. Killcams are a mixed blessing, everyone enjoys wiping their boots on the corpses of their enemies, everyone dislikes when they do it to them. I'm reserved on it, I want to see what these taunt options are going to be in the store, I feel like killcam should stay purely for the entertainment and trolling taunts will provide us.

Ultimately, I don't think kill cam has any effect on gameplay in a massive scale game like Planetside, your location is far less important in an environment where your enemy has hundreds of targets in their immediate vicinity. So I think that argument goes out the window, though I'll reserve judgement. If location spotting because of killcam turns out to be a problem in beta I'll swap sides. Otherwise it should definitely stay for now until we get to play with it properly. Calling for it's removal now is ridiculous, calling for the removal of absolutely anything in the game before you've actually checked on it's gameplay effects is ridiculous.

If it turns out to be a problem, instead of showing enemy that killed the player just show play corpse, that'll be a better balance and still allow players to taunt, but again. Wait til the beta and stop going on about it, sheesh.

I understand they shouldnt take the poll on PSU without any criticism, cos we're a small hardcore fanbase, but if the outcome is exact same on Facebook, I think that tells that people just genuinely dont want to feature, at least not in this game.

everyone enjoys wiping their boots on the corpses of their enemies
I dont, I think it's quite alarming behavior anyways. Then again, I think the same about bronies.

Hahaha I didn't want this to be another rant thread. It's just so fucking hilarious to see how not one damn person wanted it. It doesn't even appeal to the gamers that it was specifically implemented for.

We, the players, never asked for them. We never wanted them, we always wanted them go away. Yet, they kept getting forced onto us, because "this other game got them".

Away with the Kill cams, once and for all. Rather give us useful information, like if there is a medic around to rez us.

I don't mind it, just not in the form they have it there.

If it was just an "informational" kill cam, i.e. no locational cues just their character model against a shaded background with infromation about the killer, then I think it'd be a great addition.

My comment here is not for or, against kill-cams, but rather questioning how encouraging "people to be more cautious" is a bad thing?
