Because it's suggested that the weapon acts as a typical firearm but with magnets instead of powder.

Yah the nerd in me had to ask.

A gauss rifle would expend no "flash" due to no combustion, and therefore no escaping gases to redirect with a compensator.

I think it's the spark suppressor (friction and stuff). They're NC afterall, you can come with "faulty secondhand design" excuse for anything with them.

If I remember correctly it was always explained that the Gauss Rifle uses a combination of magnetic propulsion alongside standard cartridge rounds. Thus allowing it to achieve a much higher muzzle velocity than either of the two components could accomplish alone.

Exactly, the first planetside explained the Gauss rifle to use combustion based rounds, they were just boosted by gauss technology.

Is that the full size image?

It most likely is the full size magazine, it just looks very small cos the underslung launcher covers it up.

In "normal screenshots", it looks like a quite a standard 30 rd magazine that we're used to from RL and other games.

Wonder if that is actually the heavy gauss rifle the Rexo class will be using. It's overall size is a bit large it seems to me.
