Re: What is your acceptable latency

The issue of latency is only amplified/minimized by how well the game is coded.

That said I prefer 60ms< , although I was playing PS for years above 100ms, and we all know how terrible the coding is in PS.

For a game on the size and scale of PS2, I say <100 will be fine.

I'm fine with anything below 60 or so, anything more than that tends to effect game-play, which means I wouldn't bother playing.

I live within 8 miles of the server farm where SOE hosts some of their other games here in Vegas so I would hope to see pings of 20 or less if they run PS2 here too.

we were working right behind the building today building a new pad for another warehouse for more servers, the place never stops growing.

Anything less than 0.1 is good because the average reaction speed of a person between what they see or feel and what their hand twitches is 0.215 seconds (Source).

That's only the time that people see something and their hand twitches, nothing about actually aiming and hitting a target. So what's the difference between having a 20ms ping + 0.215 reaction to having a 100ms ping + 0.215 reaction? Fucking 0.08 of a second.

I refuse to believe that there are large amount of people that require anything less than 100 to make a game enjoyable. Anyone that believes otherwise are either basing their opinion off of experiences with terrible netcodeing or are delusional.

For Planetside, with a relatively long TTK and hybrid client-side hit detection, it's not really a big deal. For MW3 or BF3 or Counterstrike, you better believe .08 seconds makes a huge difference.

Question is... will PS2's TTK be short enough that a tenth of a second starts to matter?

Actually it would impact high ROF weapons the least.
If a round from a high damage low ROF weapon (I'm looking at you, NC) misses due to latency that would be more bothersome
