SOE needs to give item development over to the players!


Valve have proved you can get the players to make content and you make more money from the game as a result because they make things you want to buy and faster. All SOE needs to do is have a store where players can sell items they've made and SOE takes a percentage of that. Players could create armour, weapons and vehicles and they'd do things players would actually want like an underslung MCG lol.

It frees up the space for SOE to just focus on making the game better and creating content elsewhere like redesigned bases. I think if SOE doesn't do this, they're missing a major opportunity, it's really the future of gaming, just look at how well Steamworks does for games now, people can easily download mods and modders can gain a reputation and maybe a job.

Player created content always makes an online game community stronger and the game last longer.

I also found it amusing that you said that you wouldn't be coming back (I assume to Planetside 2) until the MCG mas underslung, and then you create a thread later whining about the flare gun.

Player studio?

But no, they shouldn't just hand over all future content development to the players: weapons, vehicles etc. Anything that isn't just purely cosmetic needs to be QA'ed by the devs before it's released.

Also I'm going to close this down unless you're not referring to the Player Studio, Evil.

In the X-cast interview with T-ray this week, he said the devs are trying to get away from making cosmetics. That will pretty much be in the hands of the players after Player studio is introduced.

Players could make weapon models which get approved by SOE staff then SOE will make the stats for them.

But players making whatever they want and putting everything in game sounds horrible.

Player content like this is cool, I'd start with a VS particle ray that is one shot one kill on a MAX, but unfortunately it has a depressingly slow fire rate (it's sad to be a VS weapon) so never hits anyone, but at least there is no bullet drop.

Closing this down as OP didn't give any reason why the answer to this thread wasn't simply the Player Studio.
If anyone wants to make a thread about the Player Studio and how it's going to work or how it should work then they should make a new constructive thread to discuss that.
