GTX 670M vs GTX 675M

Hey guys. I'm comparing the following laptops and need some advice. Basically the only difference between these machines is the graphics card.

One has a 670M and the other is a 675M, obviously the 675 is better, however, the 670M has Dedicated 3GB GDDR5 whereas the 675 has Dedicated 2GB (doesnt say waht type it is)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152336

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152347

So the 670 would save me 150 bucks which is nice, but I want to know how the two graphics cards compare. I heard the difference between a 670 and 675 isn't that significant. With what I assume is more and higher quality memory on the 670 would it be as good as or better than the 675?

Also, the one with the 670M says the screen is full HD while the 675 doesn't say that, not sure if they're really different or not though...

Also... the ram on the 670M says 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM while the ram on the 675 says its DDR3 1600 not sure if thats a big difference or not?

Lastly, the 670M says Killer Gaming Network under LAN, not sure what that is, the 675 doesn't say anything for LAN.

What would you recommend buying, and how well do you think the 2 machines could run PS2?

Thanks!

From what I see, the 670M is the better value. Not worth $150 for a marginally better gpu.

I can also get a sager for 1650 with 8 gigs of ram and a 7970M which I hear is a lot better? do you think that is worth it? For 1700ish I could get it with 12 gigs of ram, but not sure how much ram is really necessary these days?

You won't need more than 2gb of VRAM for a laptop sized resolution I'd think.

I just saw that the 675M comes with a free Xbox 360. Considering that you can ebay it for $150, the 675M is the best deal of the three.

The 7970M is indeed better than the 675M, based on my initial research. If it has a same/better CPU then it will be more powerful.

You don't need 12GB of RAM unless you are planning on doing 3D Modeling on your laptop. 8GB is standard for gaming PCs.

EDIT: Also just noticed the 675M has a $50 MIR. This deal just keeps getting better!

Honestly I CBA to sell an xbox on ebay, just don't have the patience for it, how much would it go for if I trade it in at gamestop or something?

Also, still thinking about the 7970M, i saw some benchmarks where the 7970 was basically double the fps in a bunch of different games compared to a 675M, this would seem worth a hundred or 2 hundred dollars wouldn't it? Just exactly how significant is the difference between these 2 cards?

I accidentally typed 670M instead of 675M in my previous post. I have corrected it.

Here is a few comparisons between the 675M and 7970M. If you spend the extra cash on the 7970M, you WILL get your money's worth.

Re: GTX 670M vs GTX 675M

If the perforamnce would really be that much better (looks like its nearly doubled) then yeah thats just too good to pass up... 200 bucks for a 70% fps increase... yes please!

But aren't benchmarks like that dependent on the other hardware being used in them? Would the processor on these PCs bottleneck the performance to the point where it really wouldn't matter if I had a 675 or a 7970?

Nope. In most modern games, the CPU has a marginal impact unless it simply isn't good. It is safe to assume that all laptops with this powerful of GPUs would also be paired with a good CPU. The performance increase you see there will be around the same you will experience between the two.

I also agree that the extra $200 is worthwhile. As long as you are comfortable with it, it is a good buy.

Your wrong about that. The CPU in PS2 is a BIG deal.

Do you think the 3610QM that is standard on this laptop is good enough? What kind of fps do you think I would get on high settings with the 3610 QM and the 7970?

we cant talk about things like this yet as the game is not tweaked and benchmarked. If you're running a 7970 have good ram and CPU you will get decent enough frames to max everything assuming the game doesnt have fatal flaws with certian cards.

I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. It is important to have a good CPU, but you will not have a significant performance increase within the higher range of CPUs. An i7 is an i7.

Considering that Alienware sells their $2000 laptops with this exact same processor, you should be fine. I THINK you should get AT LEAST 50 FPS on high settings based on 7970M performance on other games and the setups they have said work well with PS2.

GTX 670M and GTX 675M are both using the GF114 ASIC (i.e. old 40nm fermi tech)
GTX 670M = GTX 560 with lower clocks
GTX 675M = GTX 560 Ti with lower clocks

The 675m is better, 2GB of vRAM is more than enough for laptop resolutions.

GTX 680M is using GK104 (new 28nm Kepler tech) and is much better than GF114.
GTX 680M = GTX 670 with reduced clocks

Radeon HD 7970M is using the Pitcairn XT ASIC.
HD 7970M = HD 7870 with reduced clocks.

Any of these GPUs will run PS2 ok, med/high depending on res etc..

Looks to me like the GPU is the only difference between the two models, just newegg has listed the two pages quite a bit different.

Killer Gaming Network comes with both models you have listed and will be this;

Its not bad for free i guess, wont make much different to anything though.
