Events?

I've always wondered if people in this game are against the idea of events that you teleport to and fight other people in (like they did in Warhammer).

Not as a primary mode of course, but as something that you Queue up to while doing other stuff and then enter as one of two teams. (usually one team trying to accomplish some sort of objective with the other team trying to block em)

it can be a nice diversion if it features new gameplay modes and the occasional change of scenery. As long as balance is taken into account and there is enough verity they can be a nice feature, but some people hate them...

So whats the opinion on those? good? bad? don't care?

Re: Events?

By events you mean scenarios.

Because events in Warhammer are monthly special features.

Re: Events?

I'm against events because it takes the epic Big World battles away. Because why have a 150 vs 138 person match when you can have an Even balanced 20 vs 20 match? /rolleyes.

People wouldn't participate in World PVP, just like in Warhammer. there would be no incentive. And as more people queued up and were in the Scenarios, the less there are out on the field of battle. And thats something we don't want.

Re: Events?

by events I did mean scenerios (I got mixed up)

and I suppose there is some arguement that they would disrupt world pvp too much. I just wish there were more ways to win besides hacking, like some way to destroy the base and move on (like for example if they have all their guys concentrated at the doors...)

One thing Warhammer did do was make it so that command posts (similiar to towers) granted some sort of passive bounus to the people that took it over; however if they do something like that it has to be worthwhile and realitively easy to use.

Another possiblity floating around in my mind is to make more types of command posts in the field besides the tower; maybe like an underground bunker to take over, or a supply dump, or a field vehicle depot. Anything to make the skirmish combat more interesting.

Those are just some thoughts, I could be wrong but I figure any ideas we all post will help in some ways (if the devs actually ever read these...)

Re: Events?

I'd rather these events appear within the big world and appear as a sphere of influence on the map, like a PlanetSide1 facility, that basicly says EVENT SOI: "Here is the event."

Within this temporary SOI spawns the things within or around the SOI that relates to the event. This could be the discovery of anciant alien Vanu exiles (stationary SOI) or a huge Blue Whale death-machine in the sky of a specific Empire [Attack & Defend] (slow-moving SOI) across the map.

Yeah people have shown in past games that whenever you make some kind of instanced convenient little PvP matchup feature like this that everyone uses it instead of world PvP. It essentially kills it. I guess its cause everyone is so afraid of an unfair fight or doesn't want to have to travel to a battle an would rather teleport. So yeah it would be nice if we could have both but we probably have to choose an I think world PvP is better since that's Planetside's strength.

Re: Events?

World Events would be much more appealing to draw the fights in.
Something like "Researchers at (Facility X) has found a breakthrough in Gauss technology."

By seizing the data from the Facility, Your Faction begins a Research timer (essentially a Mass persistant crafting timer) of several hours should you manage to hold onto it without it getting stolen from you. Should you manage to finish the research, You gain access to alternative weapon versions utilizing the technology. Perhaps other factions could have the option of trying to steal or sabotage the research or corrupt the data so you're set back a bit.

Thats something to fight for and would be a worth while event that would encourage you to see it through to the end. A poor example, but i'm sure devs could think of something.

Re: Events?

I was thinking that if there were events you would want something that would be unique to each planet. These would activate at a unique facility on each planet if a sufficent amount of combat occured, here are some examples:

For example if you are on a TR controlled planet a scenerio activates on the map where you have to find a TR pow camp and break out prisoners (with TR trying to stop you of course).

For a Vanu planet perhaps it would be an archelogical site with a powerful artifact that must be either taken back to a faraway vanu research base (escort) or siezed from them (capture the flag).

For a NC planet maybe you would have a roaming VIP rebel figurehead that NC has to protect while the other sides are trying to take him out.

However, not all these occurances would have to be faction specific, there are plenty that could be possible across factions:

Supply depot raids, where respective sides are trying to capture supplies for their faction or blow up each others escaping convoy vehicles.

A communications uplink that must be held for 30 mins straight by one faction while it broadcasts some important transmission.

Even a superpowerful weapon style event, where one side must hold the weapon long enough for it to be used on all their enemies on the map where the other factions are trying to sabotage or destroy it.

The possiblities are endless here.

Re: Events?

To make it so my post wasn't too long winded I decided to do rewards/consequences on another page.

For the faction specific events the rewards would probably be exp for command points depending on preference.

For the all vs all events the reward would probably be a temporary field effect like faster base caps, faster movement speed, health regen, or something along those lines.

and of course the possiblity of temporarily unlocking new weapons or vehicles that carry a devastating advantage (kinda like the BFR's but only one per map).

And to make sure events like these didn't become all imporant you would probably want to limit their occurance to maybe 2 per day, with a timelimit to ensure that the entire days battle wasn't fought over an event with no winner.

Anyway, these are all just suggestions. Feel free to post more suggestions or your opinions to the posiblity of scenerios.

I wouldn't be so certain. =p

But yeah, mini events that give the game some meaning and a few things to fight for would definitely A) Increase interest for the game and B) Keep current players from tiring of the game (I personally don't think it's possible).

The game should always be evolving, and events that give a specific empire TEMPORARY access to superweapons would definitely give players a feeling of 'WE need to hold this CC. WE need to band together and fight off these VS nubbles. WE need to do this shit.'

Maybe a few temporary alliances? The NC and TR band together (TEMPORARILY) to take over a Vanu facility (which is really easy to defend (very open space, base is at a high altitude, so the flight ceiling is relatively close to the base, and plenty of AA/AG). Pick the two allied empires randomly and say "If we don't take this base, the other guys get this superweapon. If we take the base, we get it. Now GO FORTH!"

These events shouldn't be as often as once or twice a day, as Jack posted (the devs wont have that many ideas, and the events will start to get repetative. These events should be something to look forward to, but not having to wait too long), maybe a Friday night event. The games population would surge on Friday night, and it would probably stay high for the rest of the weekend.

Lastly, there should be some subscriber only events, just to give something for subscribers to pay for that doesn't unbalance the gameplay.

Re: Events?

Events can be big or small. Massive or mediocre events. The mediocre would be like defending a research as said before whereas massive would depend on population size, concentration of players, maybe something to do with an Outfits points or an Empire global "resource meter" at 100%.
I wouldn't like to see too many events because it would divert gameplay. The majority of players may just want to kick-ass and not pay attention to any Event. At least maximum of 3 mediocre events each day and 5 massive events each week providing the requisites are met ... or something like that.

I suppose free-players could participate but not gain the rewards.

Re: Events?

Well the only reason I suggest events/scenerios is just to mix things up. So that occasionally players get to try something other than "take this base, defend that base, stall them at X hillside".

Anyway, most of the die-hards never get tired of the world PvP; but to attract and retain more people you have to mix things up a bit.

Just a suggestion, I could be wrong.

There's nothing wrong with events but i still think that more than once a week is too often.

Details, Details.

All that really matters is more content, put in an interesting form. The rest is just logistics.

Not necessarily more content, just changing content so that the game stays fresh.
