Smokejumper says stuff about the patch.

http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/b...ML/004491.html

Smokejumper says.
I completely understand why that's confusing. Let me try to explain:
1) A patch was pushed that should NOT have gone live because it wasn't tested or even complete. It was just a sample patch we were crunching for size analysis. It was never intended to go live, but got pushed up anyway. (I'm sure whoever did it now lives in fear of visits from upper management.)

2) We had to "reverse" the patch so that anyone that downloaded the "false" patch would get corrected files again when they reconnected.

3) The reversal works...but there is no differential patch to go backwards in the patch process. Therefore, if files were different, it has to download the entire file for each file that needs to change...instead of just the particular bytes that changed in that file.

4) Therefore, the reversal takes longer than the original screw-up. (And there's a lesson in life there, I'm sure...)

5) We're still working on the REAL patch. That won't be ready for hours.

6) However, during the meanwhile, the servers (all of them) are now on-line and available for play.

If we're lucky, Murphy and his stinking Law have left the building and we can get some work done now.

The servers are down. We're nuking and paving stuff because the "fix" that was created earlier for us is not the fix that was necessary.
Ever have one of those days?

The servers are going to be down for a while. I'll post more info in a new thread as soon as I get it.

We will ensure that everything is running smoothly and is ready for you to play again before opening the servers again.

No ETA at all. But the next time they're up, everything should be good to go.

I kinda feel sorry for these poor devs sometimes

I bet they are flogging the guy who put the wrong patch up.... that is the real reason for the delay.

The last line of his statement there sounds pleasing...

No ETA at all. But the next time they're up, everything should be good to go.

Let's hope so!

We're working hard to get the patch out tonight...despite the fact that we're essentially starting from scratch at 9:30 in the evening.
Heh. Dedicated? Insane? You decide. But we're doing it.

No ETA...but our goal is "before Dawn".

I doubt they care really. The game is still only beta. It isn't costing them money or anything. We still havent paid them for this service. I bet the worst thing they did was say ,"What the hell man, don't let it happen again." And then they gave him a nice pat on the bottom, and said, "Go team, hooah!"

You dont get fired for making one mistake.. These things happen. Last week one of the programmers with the team i work with (another place) accidentally over wrote an entire file that just got midified.. Messed up sound queues and everything... Luckily we source saved! but some stuff had to be redone.. IT happens... just gotta try to let it happen as little as possible... The PS team is doing a great job though. Really pro guys and gals. cyaz int he forums.

na, someone wont get fired for that, but it doesnt look good, and a few more like that and you jsut might find that you dont have an office one day. Doing things that mess up many hours of work and make many of the ones whom are going to give you $$$ soon upset and confused is just ... not a good thing

more smoke stuff

Good news. The fates seemed to have settled down and we're making FORWARD progress for a change now.
No ETA still. It's bound to be many hours to go still...but I just thought you might be encouraged.

And yes...I read every post. (I was waiting for a build to compile.) Don't send the pizzas, but thank you for the generous thought. That's very cool.
