I can understand why it looks like it does when you actually see the moon in orbit around Auraxis.

I mean, here's our moon:

Now, here's the Auraxis moon that casts that blue light:

And what this picture DOESN'T show is the fact that the camera lens doesn't work like your eye. Your eye will see far brighter in that night light than the camera would.

Ugh. Darkness. Oh well, at least this time I can bail and go to another continent when the moon is down(since the continents will be in different time zones), rather than use crappy NV. Hopefully moonless nights won't be too common though. I've never once played a game where I enjoyed night time.

Don't be a debbie downer... there are many, many people who enjoy it (including myself). It adds a whole new set of tactics you can use and makes the game more interesting overall.

Darkness is a novelty that will wear off. Lets just hope its not dark 50% of the time. About 10% is enough.

95% of the game is just novelties that will wear off. That doesn't mean we shouldn't include them.

As long as NV isn't a gimmic. I don't want bf3 ir scopes.

We'll see what they do. If the NV is decent it'll be ok. If its some grainy oversaturated green glop with a 10m range, no thanks. If they don't bother with NV at all( ) then I'll have to go to my video card settings and crank the brightness and contrast. Will look like crap, but I'll be able to see.

Sorry. My eyes don't handle picking up details off a dark screen well.

T-Ray quote back in january
Night can be various levels of darkness on a single map in the open plans it could brighter and at the same time in a canyon it can be pitch black

Makes sense.

The moon casts light like anything else. In the canyons the rocks will obstruct the light from the moon, making it pitch black in places while the open plains have nothing to obstruct the moonlight.

I'm not to worried about it. There was a part in the GDC gameplay where it was pitch dark. It was right before the moon came up.

I guess that depends on the exposure time set on the camera, doesn't it? I get your point tho, the human eye can see quite well in Earth moonlight after 20-30 minutes of adjusting to the low light level.

I think the Devs might have a tricky time tho trying to balance what players expect light levels at nighttime to be like with what might occur when the moon on Auraxis takes up at least 50x more of the night sky than the one orbiting Earth as seen from the Earth's surface.

Plus they also need to consider typical ambient light levels in the rooms of the players playing PS2. They need to make it dark enough to be convincing as "nighttime" for someone playing in a darkened room at night with all the lights off, but not so dark that you can't see a thing if you're playing during the day in a well-sunlit room.

Personally I haven't seen nearly enough nighttime footage to tell whether I'd want the particular moonlit scene we saw from the GDC footage to be darker or not.

I have to agree it needs to be really dark and have some sort of night vision goggles or something.

This night time is like a thunderstorm popping up at noon.

It needs to be darker.
I agree it can and probably should be darker. But there is a minimum darkness for night, and I think they've reached it.
