I can understand why it looks like it does when you actually see the moon in orbit around Auraxis.
I mean, here's our moon: Now, here's the Auraxis moon that casts that blue light: Last edited by Erendil; 2012-03-09 at 09:52 PM. |

Ugh. Darkness. Oh well, at least this time I can bail and go to another continent when the moon is down(since the continents will be in different time zones), rather than use crappy NV. Hopefully moonless nights won't be too common though. I've never once played a game where I enjoyed night time.

Sorry. My eyes don't handle picking up details off a dark screen well. |

The moon casts light like anything else. In the canyons the rocks will obstruct the light from the moon, making it pitch black in places while the open plains have nothing to obstruct the moonlight. |

I'm not to worried about it. There was a part in the GDC gameplay where it was pitch dark. It was right before the moon came up.

I think the Devs might have a tricky time tho trying to balance what players expect light levels at nighttime to be like with what might occur when the moon on Auraxis takes up at least 50x more of the night sky than the one orbiting Earth as seen from the Earth's surface. Plus they also need to consider typical ambient light levels in the rooms of the players playing PS2. They need to make it dark enough to be convincing as "nighttime" for someone playing in a darkened room at night with all the lights off, but not so dark that you can't see a thing if you're playing during the day in a well-sunlit room. Personally I haven't seen nearly enough nighttime footage to tell whether I'd want the particular moonlit scene we saw from the GDC footage to be darker or not. |
