Let me start off by saying i love the Galaxy and its design. I think having a real viable drop-ship is a brilliant feature and adds a whole load of depth to Planetside.
My idea can really be summed up in real-world terms. The Galaxy is pretty much a Lockheed C-130 Hercules, with the Galaxy Gunship variant being a Lockheed AC-130. The first one being a troop/supply transport and the second being a supporting gunship. The roles arn't exactly the same, the Galaxy takes a more active combat role than a C-130 in Planetside - but you get the idea.
What i'd like to see, is something that takes the role of a Chinook, or some other short range troop transport.
This could free up the Galaxy to be much more of a support plane, and could solve some of the balance issues with (possibly) being able to spawn on a Galaxy.
I feel that hot dropping should be less precice and be made more like parachuting, and get less and less accurate the higher you are from the ground. If you wanted a fast, hot entry to a fight a Galaxy being the giant lumbering brute it is shouldn't be able to deliver. Where as a chinook would.
Give it enough spaces for a squad, possibly less? (no MAXes) and make it faster, smaller and more agile than a Galaxy. However, it should obviously be less well armoured and this would make it a prime target for any reavers/mossies flying around.
This would be similar to the Phantasm in many ways, but it should be used more as it would be a staple aircraft for organised squads to move around in.
Dismount using a rope/zip line as you would in real life, this would mean precision drops on towers and bases etc.
So essentialy, it does what the galaxy does now in terms of low precision drops onto towers and bases, but the Galaxy still retains the high altitude hot-drop mechanic and the ability to respawn and change your gear in. But hot drops should be less accurate.
Sorry about the bad formatting, the idea was a bit jumbled. What do you guys think?
