I'm not new either, was playing on Werner in 2005 for a good 8-9 months.
I also used the free 45 days that were given right at the beginning. EDIT: last year. not at first installation/registration And the free 30 day trial that was run when I first joined. So what's going on? Last edited by EZShot; 2012-02-13 at 04:26 AM. |

Now that things are picking up for planetside 2 and its coming beta, i figured that i could try out the original and see what it was like. I was very surprised to find out that there was no trial option remaining or other free time. It makes no sense to subscribe to something that is clearly very dead and once the beta kicks off, likely in march, i hope to be doing that.
As a newcomer, who never played planetside, it does leave a poor impression, especially as i spent time reading over the forums to see just how bad things are in planetside at the moment. Is hacking really such a concern when the game is surely about to be turned off anyway? There are a lot of newcomers like myself who are seeking to get some interest and knowledge....planetside 1 should be a selling point, not some sort of graveyard that we have to pay to visit. If you are really interested in PS2 I suggest avoiding PS altogether. The games are going to be far different in how their being implemented. The only major similarities are the large fights, factions, and story line. You will likely only be turned off by the game due the poor state its in. SOE really has not supported the game properly for several years and its prime time was back in 2004ish. The game is old I really don't know what you were expecting, this runs on DX 8 lol.

Yup, very interested in planetside 2. I`ve been following its development for quite some time, especially as games like wow and sto all limited pvp to such a stupidly small scale. As a pvp fan, planetside 2 is the last beacon of hope for large scale, team based action.
This is probably why team fortress 2, which is an old game by today's standards, is so amazingly successful. There are so few games where you can actually plan, socialise and fight with a team these days. Planetside 2 also brings back good memories of battlezone 1 and 2, which let you base build and actually go out in your vehicles in first person mode. Similar ideas too with the vanu and the battlezone sentient machine/ human hybrids. One thing i really love about games like planetside and, say EVE online, is that you can really make history with them because of the large, persistent world that is so lacking in other mmo's and similar games. Groups of people can, by virtue of effort, change the game for everyone and do great things. You can have live news programmes covering big battles and they will be remembered for a long time to come. You really can be come, by popular agreement, the leaders of your faction and their public persona, capable of giving orders and getting them followed by countless people across the globe. Everyone out there trying to kill WoW has been aiming in the wrong place and has just tried to beat it at its own game. The "massive" in MMO was where they should have aimed and the MMO-FPS has a chance of really making something new that stands up on its own. It had better do, too, otherwise all we have is EVE online and thats quite a toxic and negative community that just gets less pleasant every day. |

I did know what to expect though, even though its old. I played TRIBES, back in the day, so i am guessing it looks a bit like that did. Even so, just seeing a small battle, even the limited ones that planetside offers today, is still much much better an impression of what planetside 2 will be like than anything else out there i could choose to look at, except perhaps some console games.
I watched a few playthroughs on youtube of some folks trying planetside out when the free trial was available and was impressed. It may seem like a shadow of what it was to all you veterans, but believe me, there is still nothing comparable out there and i`d love to see a free month where all the vets come back and do their stuff, with me getting some practice and just a taste of the scale and community. |

well the answer is really the same. New account - free 30 days of play then you put in your details, I did this when I gave my original to my brother. won't last Old account - might still have some free play time on it from when SOE got hacked and they gave everyone free play time in lieu, won't last

Good idea over "free". Give vet's Trial Codes for 2 week trials, say 3-5 per vet. That way you have to contact someone to get a code, not just sign up for a trial account over and over and over. May get some new ppl in, as well as old vet's who would like to see the condition of the game before locking in for a month.
