A game should not be able to call itself an MMO when the only "MMO" like element is a city or central hub type area that everyone goes to to stand around and wait for queues for smaller, more condensed round based fighting.

I'm not sure if that's how Dust works, but it would appear to be that way.

As soon as they said it was ps3 exclusive I think everybody figured out it that the "mmo" part just meant a glorified lobby system "tied-into" a real mmo: EVE online. Companies have been doing that shit for years now, especially since planetside came out. Huxley pulled the same crap.

Everybody wants the bragging rights, but nobody wants to do the hard work of actually making an mmofps. Especially after Planetside didn't become an overwhelming success. It's a lot of work for an uncertain payoff.

This is part of the reason SOE marketing really has their work cut out for them; "mmo" no longer has much real meaning.

Even if it was an MMO, Planetside 2 and Dust 514 wouldn't be competing.

Why?

Two facts: PS3 exclusive and it is also being published by Sony. So really, it's not anything PS2 would be "up against." More like "something along side."

but did they? I'm STILL yet to play it.

Guess this is what happens when you have Webzen as your publisher...GJ Firefall for dropping those dicks, should have never gone with them in the first place though.

I was excited about Dust...until I heard it was PS3 only. Then it's only 16v16? The fuck? Thankfully Planetside 2 is coming along.

Dust 514 still looks good. That is, if they still keep the EVE style customization for players and vehicles.

But PS2 will most likely do that better any way.

To be fair, it IS going to be involved in a persistent world. They're saying MMO, because the fighting (somehow, noone outside of CCP have any clues) ties together with EVE Online's Planets/Sov system.

I think it's bollocks (Both it's existence and calling it an MMO), and I hope it dies and has to be disconnected from EVE, but that's why.
