The Router; why change it?

Now, granted that my math skills, particularly units, are fuzzy, but here goes.

The current Router range is ~300m, if memory serves. the average continent size is around 5 km^2. Now, as a former-full time support character, I can tell you that the original range of the Router verges on useless with the exception of very specific circumstances.

Now, we have an interesting bug that allows the router unlimited range, continentally. We were orginially told by the devs that a range boost would be difficult because of "technology issues". This obviously isn't the case at all. So, the question is, why change it back to 300m? If it had a range of 5-600m, it would be much more useful.

Thoughts? Discuss.

The difference between useful and abusive is very slight sometimes.

I'm not saying leave it like it is. I'm saying since it's obviously so easy to code that they put it in by mistake, why not give it a more useful range then it has.

It should never have a range greater than the view distance. Right now it is approaching that limit. Being safe from enemy fire by virtue of distance is a mistake in this game, and one of the reasons the flail is so obnoxious.

Bish hit it right on the head, 300m is plenty far.

I was kind of hopeing that it would have more range also, I myself wonder what would be the negative effects of this. So what would they be?

Hell if some of the AA weapons can fire up to 500m, why shouldn't the router be able to go that far? Sounds good to me.

I think it would be interesting to give ti unlimited range, but have the carrier of the router pad be highlighted like he was carrying an LLU, so that although the router is extremely useful, it's also a hazardous job to deploy one.

One of my outfit mates said the current range coulf be from one end of the continent to the other end of it. So with that in mind...how more useful could it be?

I was at Cear on Forseal the other day and the VS had a router somewhere and it linked to the pad that was inside the wall on top of the gen room roff. The bad could not be destroyed and they had many people in the gen room constantly. It was quite annoying and a hack/exploit. If any of you did you on the forums did this. I look down upon your carcus.

I like the LLU glow idea. No stupid Gen Cloaker attacks, but it makes it so that the Router isn't totally useless

I'm embarrassed that I didn't think of the clever, easy way for the VS to get those things in impossible places. This also explains some of the motion sensors I've seen.
