What Happens to PS1?

So pretty simple question and did a search for a thread and was surprised I didn't find anything but What happens to PS1 Server when PS2 goes live?Does someone turn out the lights?

Unknown. SOE has not announced plans for Planetside 1.

PS1 exists with almost no overhead. It is included in the Station Pass and will run indefinitely.

I would guess, yes. PS2 is an entirely different game and speed. I would not expect a large pop, but there will always be players who relish in owning what they play and if PS1 is up, people will play it.

I'll expect they will keep it going as long as there is enough people playing to cover the costs.

Considering that they kept running Werner with a pop that could be described as a handful, I guess it won't be shut down immediately.
But I expect it to be about as entertaining as Werner was in it's last months

nah, if there isnt enough people actually playing the game it wont justify the costs of running the servers. SOE's a business not a charity.

Also google tells me that "PG&E" means Pacific Gas and Electricity. so I have no idea what youre on about there...

I would totally play both PS1 and PS2 if they made PS1 f2p somehow. NOT paying $15 for such dismal pops.

i hope ps2 will bring back the planetside feeling and be as much fun as ps1 was.

if it fails i would be sad if soe took ps1 down.
but ps1 needs another business model to regain population. if ps1 was free to play, i would still play it.
too bad this will not happen due to the fucking cheaters and hackers only waiting for this

at any rate you will see PS1 pop drop way off due to the $15 sub.

A server is just a computer. The hardware is already owned. It would be more work to take it offline than to keep it online. The only costs are any people that still get paid for supporting the game, (Forum mods or whatever, I don't think we have GMs these days.) the bandwidth costs, and electricity costs. Bandwidth and electricity could probably be easily covered by less than 20 subscriptions a month.
