Damage Effects vs. Infantry


I'll cross-link to here, but essentially the idea is to have the character models react when shot and have degraded performance when damaged.

What do you mean by react? Flinch? Stunned? Thrown back?
I think it would add to the realistic side of gameplay, but this is a game. Not a simulator.
It might just detract from gameplay and contradict with the "fast pace" Planetside 2 keeps shooting for. Though minor things such as dilated reticules and waggling sights when shot would be acceptable.

Reacting when shot sounds like it might interfere with your ability to fight back. And in a game where you die in a handful of bullets, I have to wonder at making it even more of a disadvantage for the enemy to get the first shot off.

As for damage effects, I dunno, I'm trying to think of a game that did that where it was a positive experience. I guess it's a feature some people like for the sake of realism, but I think in a more arcade-style shooter like Planetside it might not be well-received.

With shields playing such a major role, flinching wouldn't make sense for the first shots anyways. That's the point of shields- and armor, at that.

Not crazy about this idea at all, although not game breaking either.
