My New Computer...what do you think?

Alright well I'm building a new computer because there are 3 other family members here who need to use the computer and I need my own to do important things like play Planetside and look at porn and such. So what I'm asking is if you guys could tell me about any compatibility isusses I might run across/cheaper prices somewhere else/possibly switches I might make between products/what kind of cooling will I need and where should I get it? Now keep in mind I know I'm missing a monitor / keyboard / mouse / sound system / sound card but I already have all of that junk.

Video Card - ATI RADEON 9700 Pro = $369.95

CPU - INTEL PENTIUM4 2.4GHz SKT-478 OEM CPU, 512K CACHE, 533FSB = $174.95

Hard Drive- WD 80GB EIDE 7200RPM 8MB CACHE ATA-100 HARD DRIVE (OEM) = $109.95

DDR RAM - (2)512MB PC-2100 DDR BRANDED RAM 266MHZ BUS = $149.90

Motherboard - Asus P4S8X w/ AGP8X = $112.00

Tower - Performance II 400-watt ATX Tower Case = $80.00

well, I'm not a pentium man myself but it looks fine, I'll let someone who is more versed in p4's step in here but why not get pc2700 or pc3200 ram instead? it would seem you would have the FSB for it...?

As far as I understand it. When they say 533Mhz, it's actually just 133Mhz "quad pumped"
So in that case, PC2100 would be the best way to go.

Hes not using a dual band board, the board dosn't need a synchronious transfer to work at peek level...

Should get 333mhz DDR CL 2 sticks for the best bang for your buck

I have the following myself:

Intel P4 2.4g
ATI AIW Pro 9700 (which is around $360 may have been the one he priced)
Asus P4G8x
2 Gigs of ram (since it is dual piped you will want to fille 2 slots at a time, it has 4 total)
120gig wdJB drive

My system runs like a charm. Hope tonight to get to run some benchmarks on it.

Only if you do a lot of 3D Modeling or photo/video editing, or if you want to run every program on your PC at once

For only gaming the most you'll need is 768MB, but 512MB should be enough for any game atm.

Video editing is what I am running the ram for (I am in charge of 47 servers here at work running NT4/Win2K so I didn't jsut do it because I could and didn't know any better! heh heh)

Pulling video and doing image editing with this is a dream though. No more hours of wasted time as the files are slowly merged together!

Now on to that PS demo.... Need to get a good one that we can post so those of us that have not gotten into the beta can enjoy some action!!!

Otto
So close to the chaingun I can almost feel it's kick...
