SOE certainly failed in Marketing PlanetSide there really is little question there. Many mistakes were made.
I disagree with not needing a new game, PlanetSide's engine is pretty outdated at this point and it would be difficult to bring it back to it's former glory. Money would be better spent in a new one.
On the flip side they need to make sure the new game has a good, expandable engine that wouldn't require a complete redo to change a base for example.
