I'm not really a militant atheist, but I would recommend everyone to read the Reddit FAQ on atheism. It's answers a lot of questions and clears up some misunderstandings.

I don't think anyone that doesn't hate christianity should go to that subreddit.

-edit- the FAQ is a good read though.

I'm a card-carrying Humanist...which is basically an atheistic moral philosophy which may be summed up as follows:
Reason, ethics and justice produce a moral society without regard to the supernatural. Human beings are the ones living, not deities. We should be concerned with Humanity, not Gods.

Not a militant atheist group by any stretch of the imagination. Treat people ethically, behave rationally and who cares if you believe in god.

Oh 100% agreed. It's not a test of faith. There are so many posts that begin with "I joined just to see how stupid it was. Accidentally my whole religion."

Re: Religion

There is no reason to group atheist, skeptic and agnostic together when there are discernible and significant differences between the three.

Also lol at Philisophy (Such as Buddhism).

Thread would be better sans poll.

And still we don't know what keeps our feet on the ground, we have a name for it, but do the fuck we know how it works!

Ok then ill put a test to you. A simple question:

When did time begin? (I know the answer btw)

Answer that and ill believe science has a clue. And don't treat the internet as a major discovery, there are 6,840,507,000 of us humans on this planet and alot more have been before us est=107,602,707,791, some of them will get bored and start working things out its a fact. Even the laws of chance state we would eventually work it out.

The human race as a whole have a lot to answer for, we are in no means an ultimate race. We are greedy, lazy, horrid, thoughtless and only a select few look after our world.

Look at the internet, yea its amazing we can all play nice games! So what about the other things its used for? Like distributing child pornography?, trolling?, scams? and much more. Fact is even Albert Einstein had a major fuck up, he helped invent the atomic bomb. Well done sir! You gave the whole world a means to destroy its self with! Fact is I love science, I personally have watched 100's of hours of science. But we don't even understand the fundamentals of our universe. And everyday we discover something new that throws everything else we knew into turmoil.

"If you are not completely confused by quantum mechanics, you do not understand it" Now this is what everything we know is based off............................WTF.

fact is its all relative. We see scientists as cleaver, but is that not because we are thick as pig shit?

Scientists don't have a clue about the overall picture. And most will tell you the same.

Re: Religion

Atheist, as defined by a non-belief in gods, does encompass agnosticism, since agnostics dont believe in a god/s, they just "dont know"(no one knows Captain Obvious!).

Another thing about the whole agnosticism debate:
There is no middle ground in belief, you either believe or you dont. Its a binary position, you cannot sorta believe or sorta not believe.

A damn fine answer, I'm going with this one too

I hate to say it, but you're the one without a clue.

First and foremost, judging Einstein as having fucked up for the fact the nuclear bomb was developed is laughably idiotic. Go look up who developed what theory there.
Second, have you ever head of the monkeys typing Shakespeare thought experiment? You obviously have no idea how quickly complex sets of events snowball into infinitesimal probabilities if they are completely random.
Third, we understand the universe quite well. Our largest gaps in understand stem from two things: We haven't reconciled special relativity and quantum mechanics (Both of which work exceptionally well in the areas they are applied. You might think I mean pretty well. I mean better than the instruments we've got to measure these things. We simply can't make the equations produce one another in the other size scale). And the second is they aren't analytical problems and we lack computing power to handle them numerically to the scales desired.

EDIT: This isn't to say Physics couldn't ever be upended (in fact, I hope it is...it kind of needs to be if we're every going to have the cool sci-fi stuff like FTL travel). Just that we're pretty freakin' certain about lots of stuff. Untill you get to the teeniest or the absolute largest our models are spot on.

I didn't say science has the answers to everything, and no, you don't know the answer to that question.

Christian, but I don't keep Christmas, Easter, Halloween etc. I keep the "holidays" mostly mentioned in the Old Testament.

that's easy, at the beginning of the Universe because there was literally nothing before it, so time couldn't have existed until the universe did

It's a bad idea to assert things that can't be proven.
