Excellent interview, SOE Live looked like a blast. I'll have to go check it out next year.
Your question did get me thinking; Deployed Galaxy? BAM! Loadstar-like rearm (and repair?) functionality.

Let the galaxy air drop repair/rearm packages and give ground forces the ability to request them and create a mission for the gal pilot.

Up the resource price of vehicles overall but make them much cheaper or even free at the warpgate and allow galaxies to pickup vehicles and bring them to the front lines. Again, a ground player could request a transport mission for gal pilots to accept. And there would be scope for flying fighter escort, patrol or search and destroy operations.

This would give galaxy pilots a lot more to do in the air and introduce some more logistics gameplay.

Even if it didn't have anything else, this deployment option would be useful.

Interesting ways to encourage gal gameplay, much better than making it a spawn point again imo. No matter how many cert points it was required, if they gave gals spawn capabilities, eventually enough people would have it to be a problem again.
Add to that the ability for the pilot to assign one other squad member as a secondary pilot and he wouldn't be stuck babysitting it all the time, just most of the time.

Crazy, exactly what I was going to post. I think it would be great if a squad of infantry or a tank platoon could use a flare to request an ammo drop, gal pilots in the area that may have dropped off troops and have the cert for it could do a flyby and drop parachuted supplies.

+1 for Skepsiis' Galaxy deliveries concept. That's a great idea.

Being able to call for a vehicle or ammo drop when you're in the middle of nowhere would be excellent. Hell, even just calling in a gal to come pick you and your squad up and deliver them to the action would be pretty sweet.

The question is though, how are player-created missions going to work? How do we pay someone to do stuff for us? Resources don't seem valuable enough right now for them to be used as currency for missions.

I'll be sure to mine the vehicle spawn pad then.

I agree that the sundy is pretty much ready for launch with all of it's options and such (though repair/rearm should be 1 cert rather than 2 to compete with AMS but that's negligible). Galaxy AWACS is definitely possible and I can't wait to be able to relive those BF2 days with mid air spawning.

Hamma, it's clear you're either trying to get a job at SOE, or you just are afraid to ask really tough questions. I would for once love an interviewer ask tough questions, and not ask cliche predictable questions every time.

Yes. Brilliant. Go out there and be an ungrateful Bastard in hopes of forcing a dev to give answers he is probably sick of answering. Its pretty clear that he knows the concerns, but let's just Act like we do on the forums and expect a different result because you're being a dick on video.

What?

You can ask better/tougher questions without being an 'ungrateful bastard' you know.

Also - every interview is the same, full of crappy questions that are predictable with generic answers.

Some people don't have a clue I guess...

Well, anyone is free to go grab a camera and do an interview themselves This isn't a witch hunt, Hamma has been doing this long enough to know how to diplomatically ask questions, and stand a chance of having another interview in future time.
It requires a balanced and neutral approach, which isnt easy when they are trying to work on nuclear fission, and half the forums are calling for the re installation of steam power.

Back to the galaxy part, I'd love if, among its existing duties, it would become something akin to this beauty

skip to 1.00 and you get the idea

Well I have news for you, Hamma - he's done a great job sticking around in the PS community for a long time, I applaud him for that. With that said, he is a fan boy and would never ever dare to say anything scathing or critical about the game. His questions to higby are predictable, and don't challenge the real problems of Planetside 2. Essentially SOE is in his back pocket, this is never going to change.

I was hoping that he would ask about my concern that designing the monetization system around selling people time savers rather than actual stuff (especially as the largest benefit to being a subscriber)is bad for the game (and kind of disrespectful of people's time). That's a "tough question" that isn't rude.

When you sell XP boosts, the reality is that the base gain is purposely set to a point that feels slow, simply to encourage people to pay for the XP boosts. If XP gain doesn't feel slow, people won't buy the boosters. If you don't sell boosters at all and instead you took the time to figure out what XP rate gain is "just right" for the average person, people aren't going to feel compelled to "grind xp".

Rather than selling people their own time back, by selling XP boosts that bring the XP gain up to a comfortable level, SOE should be selling us loads and loads of "stuff". Just like I new it would be, SOE said last week at SOE Live that the top selling things on the Market Place in Everquest II are appearance items and prestige houses. The top sellers are not XP boosters and that's saying a lot given that the game has over 90 levels and over 300 Alternate Advancement points that are all earned through XP gain. There's no reason why SOE can't make a ton of money from Planetside 2 without resorting to selling and emphasizing XP boosters.

I wish Hamma asked about that.

He runs a fansite, and is a fan. Its stating the obvious. Thats why he does it. From my perspective it just appears that everyone has had a go at the devs, they aren't taking the bait, so who's next we can burn at the stake? Oh yeah, Hamma.
If anyone is not happy with it, like I say, anyone can grab a camera and have a go themselves.Don't shoot the messenger.
