Tribes Universe

If you guys haven't heard.

Tribes Universe has been announced, hoping release(correct me if I'm wrong) late 2011. Massive battles and how funny, 3 factions plus jetpacks. I'm a diehard Planetside fan, so this isn't going to redirect my attention fully, but I will be looking over the fence once in a while. oh... Ran on modified unreal engine, or that might be Tribes Ascent, also the successor of Tribes Vengeance(fail). Discuss the relative affect of competition for SOE vs Hi-Rez.

Wasn't impressed with GA. If its just GA with bigger battles no thanks.

I was a big fan of Tribes. Actually it was probably the main reason I ended up in Planetside in the first place. So I'm really interested to see how the game develops.

So far like PS:N there hasn't been much information released so I can't make a decision either way.

I wasn't impressed with GA either so lets hope they can do TU right and bring back a great franchise.

I never played Tribes, but I heard many many Planetside players mention the same thing Miir said. Tribes got them into Planetside. So, even though I'm a PS junkie, if something comes along and does what PS does only better, well you'll find me jumping ship.

This year almost makes me feel like the Bachelor. (no I don't watch the show) There's all these cool MMO's coming out - PS:N, SW:TOR, FireFall, Tribes Universe, etc. and it feels like they are all vying for my love. I have my favorite already picked out, but I can still be won over.

Tribes: Ascend is a standalone multiplayer that will launch ahead of Tribes Universe. Some of you shouldn't discredit Tribes. Many of PS's players came from Tribes 2 because it had many of the same developers, so Tribes players were hoping for aspects of it in Planetside. In fact, my outfit was made up of Tribes 2 players.

Planetside is more of a wargame and tribes is more of a arena action game (IMOZ). There was definately desire for the latter within the PS community though (mostly from the surgile types).

Damn, planetside next is going to have to be so damn amazing in order to survive... Damn.

Registered for Alpha> I'm open to anything. PS isn't the holy grail but it's yet to be surpassed in it's genre.

Tribes was a HUGE influence on PlanetSide. Many of the devs from Tribes/Tribes2 were a part of the development team for PlanetSide.

Multiplayer Gaming in Tribes 2 is very close to my heart. Some of the best fast paced competition I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Not to mention it's where I first met with the CDL which changed my life forever.

You are rather narrow minded to think that this will become GA Goku.. I find it very hard to believe it will go down that road. Tribes is a different game and Hi-Rez knows that.

I really don't think it is a fair comparison at all.

HiRez bought the game BECAUSE they knew it was different and they wanted to make Tribes better. Many of the folks on the team were former Tribes developers.

Mitsubishi makes good Car's and TV's and the two are not remotely similar.

This could prove to be either of two things: HiRez pivotal achievement that finally puts them on the radar (yes global agenda their current game that I play is pretty good and somewhat like the jetpack gameplay of Tribes but is missing key ingredients has issues with queuing for matches etc etc) OR it becomes HiRez's undoing and they make it too much from the same mold of GA and thousands of long time tribe fans try and storm their hq in uproar!

Either way it will be quite the spectacle, not to mention they are already letting people sign up for alpha testing...
