i guess, some dev read in this forum, that some fans already paid for some preorders, and since the game will be f2p now, this dev informed the stores to cancel preorders and give the money back.

the automated call is surely just standard and says developement cancelled, because that is the cause for cancelled preorders in 99% of all cases

Got the same call, I'm really hoping this f2p doesn't mean the initial purchase is free. Just no subscription is fine but withdrawing from gamestop is scaring me

I'm imagining Steam. It would make sense and be pretty cool.

Yeah the initial threshold to playing the game should be free. Get them hooked, then take their money. It's kinda the whole point of F2P. You get about 100 times as many players that way.

I always kind of assumed f2p was going to mean free, not the box price then no subscription like Guild Wars 2. And not to get another thread into this discussion, but I personally think f2p is the best way to go since the game MUST have alot of players in order to be playable. Also, if they are going into it as f2p, then they are sure to have a large focus on dealing with cheaters. By now we should know that the devs aren't dumb enough to overlook something that vital.

Also, just throwing this out there, not sure about you guys, but my local Gamestop doesn't carry PC games, so maybe it has something to do with that? Perhaps other gamestops will stop carrying PC?

Steam pisses a lot of people off though.
I'd imagine they'd just do it themselves rather than paying steam for the pleasure

I don't hate them but they do get on my tits, for example i bought a game yesterday that has a bug where USB mice don't work consistently... in 2011 games being sold that don't like usb mice.... ofc steam don't refund. They've annoyed several communities by selling games which tbh shouldn't have been released but were and won't allow refunds like you would if you shop bought it.

If they say it's F2P, it has no initial cost. If it has initial cost, it is not free2play.

As for Steam, it is probably the best way of getting your product out there. Not sure how it pisses people off, they don't have to make Steam mandatory to run it, but making it an option is win-win.

Actually thats not true in some cases, i found this out buying football manager 2012 for my brother for xmas, its a single player game they made require steam to run, can't play it without a net connection, loads of hate for it on amazon reviews :S
