One of the great things Planetside 1 had over other FPS games where the number of Vehicle Types, and the fact thatmost of these vehicles required, 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, or 15 people to fill it up and operate it in its role.
PS2 seems to be removing a lot of vehicles from the game, and adding roles from these removed vehicles, to the new ones to replace them - there by cutting out the number of vehicles in game. This of course cuts down on vehicle teamwork, another great thing that PS1 had the no other game has. DO you want less vehicles and less teamwork to operate them, or do you perfer the orginal concept of PS1 with multiple vehicle types and vehicle teamwork.

Pretty biased question :P
How about "more vehicles" or "other vehicles"? I went with first option because PS1 vehicles were alright. Don't know if they'd fit into PS2 the way they were designed, though. But I do want my buggy with multiple seats!

Planetside 2 is launching with more vehicle categories than PS1 did.
Original Vehicles: ES Buggies Harrasser ES Tanks Deliverer Sunderer Mossie Reaver Galaxy ATVs (Basilisk and Wraith) Lightning AMS Ant In PS2 you have: Lightning Liberator Sunderer Gal ATV ES Tanks ES Fighters You're losing the category of the buggies/harrasser. The AMS and Galaxy have been consolidated. And you're losing the ant. But you're also gaining AA vehicles (both land based and air) and lodestar support (through the sunderer). Overall I think it makes sense to start off with the bare minimum and work your way up, so that balance can be maintained. I don't think we're losing anything, but rather starting off with a better selection of vehicle categories while consolidating the actual number of vehicles. |

A smaller number of customizable vehicles is better than a larger number of vehicles with zero customization.
For instance, the ESAV buggies could have easily taken the on the roles of the skyguard and harasser as well(really the harasser had no role). The ATVs could have easily been consolidated into 1 vehicle. The deli + variants + sunderer were all overlapping roles, and could have just as easily served as one vehicle with swappable weapons. Your poll is also the most ridiculously biased thing I've ever seen. |

I would have liked to have seen a separate air superiority and close air support air vehicle, with a 'fighter' tending to be something smaller and more nimble for dogfighting - but I think we actually have that with the new Liberator configuration. We'll have to see how well those ES air vehicles actually fly. Last edited by Kipper; 2012-05-07 at 08:24 AM. |

I believe it is best to focus on a lesser amount of vehicles, but with more opportunity for customization.
A lot of vehicles in the original Planetside seemed like clutter to me - the Thunderer made the Deliverer obsolete IMO. Plus, the Harasser and the ATV seemed to have no particular purpose other than getting around quickly - they weren't really EFFECTIVE against any medium, whether it be vehicular/infantry. With customization in mind, each vehicle can be used multipurpose-fully with tactics in mind, rather than pulling another vehicle suited for a particular situation, you can just swap your weapon rather than having all your current occupants dismount. In summary, many of the vehicles we have seen in Planetside have been consolidated into one with a much more, as i believe, a focused vision in mind. Each vehicle will be just as effective as the last, therefore you would want to get the most out of each rather than cluttering the battlefield with useless vehicles. where's the option for
I want newer better vehicles, some that maintain the modular design seen so far plus a few specialist units. Enough to cover a variety of roles without too much overlap Last edited by IMMentat; 2012-05-07 at 01:43 PM. |

Your poll results are weak. I want MORE vehicles than PlanetSide 1.
1 CP and 1 ES of each class (total of 4 per each class of vehicle) plus all the sidegrades and variations is a great start, and even then I'd love to see more. Things that are less for combat and more for tracking and reporting targets, specialized defensive and tactical vehicles like the lodestar, industrial vehicles to improve resource collection, boats for naval combat, etc.

I'm actually indifferent when it comes to overlap. You have some people with varying viewpoints when it comes to overlap. For instance saying that having any level of AA is overlap if one vehicle has it. There's definitely a ton of weapon systems and platforms that would create diverse vehicles with many options. I especially like vehicles with abilities. Deploying is an example we saw in PS1 that made the switchblade different from an ATV. That and damage points can really vary the designs.
