If you are looking at upgrading your Graphics Card look here FIRST.

I strongly recommend you read this article from Toms Hardware and consider the information when looking to upgrade your graphics card for PS2. If anybody considers my analysis off based off actually playing the game or personal insight let me know and I can modify.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ew,3107-7.html

I have scaled the cards off the chart based off the following Jsmed tweet, President of Sony Online Entertainment. If you twitter, a good person to follow for game updates as sometimes he even seems to suprise Higby.

The reviewer on Toms recommends if your making an upgrade to move at least 3 tiers to see a solid performance boost.

Keep in mind this is if you have a 1080p monitor. Those with less pixels do not need as powerful a card. A 1280*800 screen has about half the number of pixels, so in general you can use a card that is half as powerful.

This.

1920x1080 will not have a same performance as 5760x1200

Also smed has stated PS2 has an ultra mode designed for cards that are not yet out (I hope this is some DX11.1 stuff)
https://twitter.com/j_smedley/status/222456631647145984

So your max settings no problem section should be empty or changed to 'high'.

Yeah.. I got a HD5770 and it barely crosses the yellow there Thinking about picking up a 6950 for 200€... But I think I'll try how the game runs first.

Did Smedley just say that a 550ti could run this game on high?

Well we knew a 560 ti would be "bitchin'", so I suppose that's within the realms of possibility.

I'm looking to upgrade my HD5770 1gb to either HD6950 (200€) or HD7850 (260€) for Planetside 2, wonder if the 7850 is worth the extra 60€? I pretty much have a budget of 300€, so it can be still something more expensive, but a clanmate suggested the 6950.

What resolution is your monitor and what CPU are you running?

I think a lot of people are in the boat of needing to get in beta to see what kind of upgrades they need before dropping a lot of money on something they don t need or won't work... I have not played planetside 2 at events or otherwise but I think this is a smart way to approach the situation if you only need a new gpu.

http://uk.pc.gamespy.com/pc/planetside-2/1225448p1.html
"I was a little surprised to hear Higby boast that PlanetSide 2 had graphical settings built in that can bring any modern PC to its knees. "We have a shadow distance setting. If you go in and crank that up to ultra or max, which aren't even available in our UI right now, it does shadow rendering for your entire view distance. Being able to have shadow rendering going out two kilometers at stencil level is something that you just can't do," he said."

1920x1080, AMD Phenom II x6 1090T mildly overclocked at 3,5ghz. Supposedly can go 4ghz with default cooler and 4,5ghz with a better cooler :P

As bonus info, 8gb of DDR3 1333mhz

I'd go higher, then. I think the 7870 might be the best deal going right now, if a 670 isn't on the cards (but I agree about waiting until we see what a 5770 can do).

Re: If you are looking at upgrading your Graphics Card look here FIRST.

Well I'm sure the HD5770 can manage the game "ok", but I am planning to do a lot of recording for our clans/outfits YouTube (see sig) and for that I could probably use the extra performance of a new GPU.

That said, I'd rather keep the budget at or below 300€. I'd get a 7850 for 250€, but a 7870 is an extra 100€, bumping it to 350€.

I'm not really the person to sport the highest specs. I'm not even interested in majority of modern games. Basically as long as I get good performance while recording in APB (can be done with 5770) and PS2, I'm seriously set for years so I'm not sure if it's worth the extra 100€ for me.
