I have no doubt this game is going to be huge.

In my opinion, Planetside 2 is going to attract the BF3 and CoD refugees that want more from their FPS and are not getting it. Release after release, year after year. BF3 was supposed to be the answer, but left a lot to be desired. These people are the kind of new players Planetside needs to grow into the gold standard for PC FPS gaming.

I agree. As long as there isn't lots of lag and they don't muff the f2p model up, it has the potential to be the biggest FPS in history and possibly the biggest MMO.

I have told all my friends as well! Sending mass emails of links and preaching on street corners. I hope it's a success! I know the game looks amazing. I am skeptical of the F2P aspect, but we shall see how that works out!

As long as there isn't lots of lag and they don't muff the f2p model up, it has the potential to be the biggest FPS in history and possibly the biggest MMO.

I definitely think the game will surpass at least 200,000 active players at launch and a few months after. After that, I'm not sure, it depends on how well SOE maintains the game afterwards. SOE is notorious for screwing their games up post launch, hopefully this time around they break that stigma.

I'm pretty confident in the current dev team to carry this out, but a lot of the time certain individuals within the team get laid off or what have you then it all goes downhill from there. I wish I could be a tad more optimistic. But so long as the game has pretty decently sized population, I'll be happy.

Ya, using WoW as an example they lost their original development team a long while back, then everyone was "By the numbers" or something..

Hopefully, the Higby team stays...Forever!

I have to agree I am rather attached to this game half for its content and half because of the team behind it. Higby, T-Ray, Maggie, Clegg and friends have really earned my trust that they know what they're talking about and can deliver. I'd be sorely disappointed if any of them left.

I only play Tribes Ascend at the moment. I always drop in a "can't wait for planetside 2" at the end of each match.

One week ago no one had heard about it, now I get a couple of "amens" and "seconded" and even "thirded" (first one yesterday).

Hopefully millions and millions of players. The more money they make off of converted players the less time they have to spend thinking about changing the shop and the more time they can spend on expanding the game content.

WoW has 10.2 million subscribers as of December 2011.

I'd guess with PS2 being F2P and world-wide, 300,000 players a month after release. And then steadily growing from there.

PlanetSide 2 being a shooter and needing a fairly good PC isn't going to grow as big as WoW.

I think it will start off kind of slow, then grow to a medium-large sized game. I doubt it will reach 1million players in the first year, but it would be awesome if it did.
