FPS Archtypes: Grunt - Frontline combatant. Designed to have high damage and high survivability. Occasionally has the limited ability to heal self and others. Examples: Rexo Grunts, The Assault Class (Battlefield series), Commando (and many others) (Killing floor), The Heavy (Team Fortress 2) Support - Backline combatant. Often has weaker weapons than other classes in exchange for the ability to repair or rearm allies. Examples: Medics of all calibers. Suppression - Frontline combatants. Often has less mobility than a grunt, but has great suppressive firepower when dug in. Favored weapons of Supression archtypes are grenade launchers and HMGs. Examples: Demolitions(Killing floor), The Demo Man (TF2), Support (battlefield), Thumper Spammers (Planetside), The Firebug (Killing floor) Specialists - Mixed combatants. Specialists often have a single (or multiple) tricks that give them a massive advantage against an unaware or trapped enemy. Often have One-hit KO moves. Significantly less dangerous if the enemy is aware of their presence. Examples: Cloakers(all types), Snipers (all types), The Spy (TF2), Skulks Engineers - Backline combatant. More common in games with vehicles or deployable weapons. Weak individual firepower, but either has the ability to lay down automated defenses (such as turrets and mines) or has the ability to enhance the strengths of existing vehicles. Examples: The Engineer (TF2), Engineer (Battlefield), Vehicle Users (Planetside), Combat Engineers (Planetside), ************************** If you really want to generalize all MMORPG classes into Archtypes, then I would suggest the following scheme: Tank - A character designed to take extreme punishment DPS - A character designed to maximize damage Healer - A character designed to heal damage Controller - A character designed to minimize enemy damage Hybrid - A character with multiple roles. In a similar short description for FPS archtypes Suppression - A character designed to hold a position. Grunt - A character designed to take point and push on enemy objectives Support - A character designed to repair and rearm allies Specialist- A character designed to quickly destroy enemies and assets with suprise Engineer - A character designed around multiple roles depending on the equipment they have available. okay guys lets not get all meta lol. There are three roles in almost all senarios. Control, Support and Execution.
Everything has some element of those. Most MMOs have classes which focus on one. Playstyle is how you accomplish said role. Tanks are control, so are 'mesmers'. Kinda boring IMO. If you move to modern warfare (WWII is the best example) its more interesting tanks (with tracks) are control as it forces the enemy to react. Aircraft carriers are support, fighters and bombers are execution. Battleships are control and execution. Anti-air batterys are control. Artillery is execution but can be used as control... Its just a more interesting more malleable situation. Basically Control is forcing your enemies to react. Support is directly helping a friend. Execution is accomplishing the objective (which is often defeating the enemy). Last edited by Aractain; 2011-04-03 at 06:23 PM. |

Yeah, basically. Only, it backfired and she got a new asshole torn... then she had the balls to go cry on some talkshow about how hurt she was.
To her I say, listen you stupid twat: when you post shit on the internet, be prepared for assholes like me to mock you incessantly BECAUSE YOU FUCKING SUCK. If you haven't figured out that the internet has no filter for shitty workmanship, get a fucking clue. Grow some thicker skin. Or go back to your Hello Kitty forums. |
