Re: Spitfires

I support this message.

Would be nice to leave behind something to stop a recap immediately after you leave, mines of course, but a turret you could leave around/at capture points.

Wouldn't be too OP if they weren't all that good, but like the author posted originally they shouldn't be very strong, only strong enough to kill someone outright if their head was full of air

When tactically capping a base offensively you would just have to keep in mind that some one may have left behind a few treats. Also, correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't the turrets go offline if the generator was down in the facilities SOI in PS1? I don't remember any fond memories of laying turrets offensively with much luck, and most of my engineer days were defending facilities rather then attacking.

Anyways to not have some measure of autoturret would be silly imo.

edit: o ya tl:dr

To right I love shooting people.. Just as I love laying traps and outwitting my enemies because they lack situational awareness to avoid my cunning layouts..

Heres the real point if you claim to love shooting people then why are you ghost hacking that remote facility that ive layed spits at to delay and slow players opting to ghosthack?

I churn plenty of gray matter with bullets from my gun.

I fully agree that it shouldn't be solely about walking around with your gun and luckily the game already has a lot more to it than that. Adding other stuff to simply have more is unsatisfactory.

That's just it even the most brilliantly placed turret isn't going to really outwit anyone. Sure it may kill a few people here and there but that's more in part to their blunders rather than anything special or tricky about where the turret is. Now I am aware that not everything is about killing people. The turret also slows down an enemy push. I'm just saying it doesn't slow them down for the right reasons.

It's not much of a ghosthack if your present to defend it and if you mean you have just left the turrets by themselves odds are they wont be slowing down anyone for more than a moment.

Dangerous minefields, tripwire turrets, electronic warfare... Things that make you use your head before moving. More depth, the better.

Re: Spitfires

I have spent most of the nine years of PS with laggy, slow, non-optimal connections or computers. I like CE because it gives me some way of defending myself.

That's one reason I like that the Sundy has guns. Finally, a spawn point that isn't just a virgin tied to a post awaiting the dragons.

I am not so eager for AA as I was in PS1, because the air in this game isn't so overpowered, overabundant, and overused. No hot-dropping, at least none that I've seen, from a one-seat plane. My interest in AA was entirely defensive. In PS2, I don't really see such a desperate need for it yet.

But, and this will be hashed over much in the coming years, it is pay-to-not-be-so-guaranteed-to-lose.

Why would they be opposed to spits it's basically a mine with range.

No clue, maybe they don't like being shot at by an immobile gun that does very little damage and has a very short range. Maybe a challenge like that is too much for them to handle.

Clearly changing the pet status of a game from no pets to having pets makes it more similar to a game that has pets. I shouldn't even need to explain that.

I've already explained that killing such an underwhelming foe provides no satisfaction. It only gets in the way of the real challenges.

So make them threatening, like an enviromental hazard.

WOW has reduced pets from unlimited in UO to one. Planetside 2 is WOW'ish in that regard, and follows that WOW'izing formula of being cheap.

I'm sure walking provides no satisfaction either, let's get rid of walking.

They were already in planetside one and appeared to work, this is virtually no contest.

If they were making a planetside 1 clone they would of been done by now. On account of the fact the games already been made. It's called planetside 1. This is supposed to be an improvement and for reasons I've previously stated their absence in planetside 2 would be a significant improvement.

You obviously think twitch gaming face to face is what PS is about.

There are a lot of tactics involved from support, supply, and when they fix it, CE also.

Well, PS1 was a war game. People used CE in PS1 to strategic advantage. Players control CE and players control the destruction of CE. It's all very player controlled.
Well among the players I played with not even one could come close to stomaching the idea of alien invasions. Kill ai mobs. Been there done that as you like to say.

Id be fine with remotely controlled turrets. You know the kind that a player actually controls. But I wouldn't call tossing down your kill bot and walking away player controlled. I remember seeing kills pop up in ps1 from turrets I had entirely forgotten about (granted they only killed idiots but that's the primary target for automated turrets everywhere).

As it stands now ps2 has no pets. Yet you say its somehow more like wow because they adjusted the way the pets in wow work? Sounds more like 1 game has pets and 1 game doesn't. Adding pets only makes it more like wow.

It's already pretty clear to anyone that has taken a serious look at the beta that some kind of lattice system is required to establish some kind of rolling front line. But that's a whole other issue completely separate from the whole turret problem.

I think the combat as it stands now is anything but twitch face to face action. Sure you can get by on that to some degree but you can secure a victory far more reliably from simply positioning yourself properly and advancing at a disciplined pace.

Gotta watch out for those shadow turrets. You know, the ones that cloaked?

I wouldn't be opposed to remote controlled turrets. Cool for recon/scouting when fortifying a base. Many more cool toys like that would be awesome! Along with equipment used to detect and disarm whatever can be placed.
