It's not like indirect fire isn't in the game all ready. Tank shells, grenade launchers, grenades, you'll have plenty of indirect fire options even as infantry.
But mid-long range indirect fire for troops? I'm not a fan, indirect fire usually involves blindfiring, but with close-medium range it's not as big a problem because you're popping around corners, over walls, you see action just beyond that barrier, you have some idea of the tactical situation. But long range indirect fire basically becomes spam. We'll all ready have some form of that through Lightnings and Empire Tanks if we need to shell a courtyard. I would think the limitation here would be the ammunition, 3 shells on someone and any ammo packs only giving 2 extra shells or something. I think it's a viable strategy, and I also think a mortar should be accurate such that a skilled soldier can eventually be able to do something like bombard a place accurately if they have someone spotting distances for them.
