PS:N and Vivox Voice Communication?

PlanetSide came with an option to host voice communication server for squads. At the time it was good, for its use greatly enhanced team play. But it was far from being great, as it was hosted client side and the average player didn't have a decent headset+mic setup at that time.

With time, it became used less frequently and pretty much got replaced by (dedicated) TeamSpeak/Ventrillo servers, hosted by Outfits and alike.

Times have changed and I really hope PS:N could offer again an option that allows in game voice communication again, only improved.

Vivox is now frequently used in games for voice communication, Combat Arms, DC Universe Online, Eve-Online and EverQuest2 and this makes me wonder if we can expect to find it in PS:N also.

I’m really hoping for to find in PS:N
-Squad voice communication (Default)
-Platoon leader/Squad leader Voice communication
-Vehicle crew communication (even when in a squad)
-Easy way to MUTE people

What are your thoughts on having an in game voice communication?

My opinion is its a waste of time wasting money and time on it when most outfits are happy with vent, TS, skype or some other program.

Well, automatic vehicle-only comms might be quite useful even if your outfit has it's own voice comm

It does get confusing, but if your outfit practices proper voice comms during battle it becomes more efficient to have everyone in your outfit know what you're shooting at. Especially with the TR, who's strength is concentrated fire from multiple sources.

It completly depends on how they set it up.

Being able to talk to everyone around you is just a bad idea. But getting vehicle com and squad com will be very, very useful.

In planetside, it always was a problem if your driver and your gunner couldnt talk to each other via voice. Often enough the gunner spots some enemy tanks approaching, while the driver didnt even notice them. And if the driver doesnt know, he will run into a trap rather fast.

Same for squads. A squad of random people just being close to each other is good, but if an enemy comes from behind, you wont notice until someone started shooting, and its way to late then. You wont need it if you run with outfit guys, but with randoms you will need it. More important, it allows new players to get a good idea of the game rather quickly, instead of going for that random tank that just get you killed within minutes. It allows veterans to teach something to new players, making them stay longer, and eventually those new players will become veterans themself.

Voice Communication is a must for PSN. And it will be there for sure.

As long as I have the ability to disable the whole apparatus so I don't have to listen to a bunch of mewling n00bs who sound like they need a dose of testosterone, I don't give a shit. I won't be using it.

What I'd like to see is direct ingame support for a TS3/Vent interface.

In game voice chat is a solid concept, but its got to be very customisable otherwise people will just use Vent/TS as they do now.
