Chapter 18: Desolation, Part 4b
Ceryshen A loose panel clattered against the bulkhead wall, as the Galaxy shook. Severed wires hung loose all over the cabin, sparks flying from damaged conduits. Roswell was chewing on a Ration Bar, sitting in one the gunner positions. Rbstr was standing behind Infernus, who was piloting the dropship. "Roughly 10 Minutes till we reach Anguta." Infernus announced, looking over the few panels that still worked. Red hazard lights were strobing in the cabin, illuminating the area. The Galaxy was in emergency mode, all non-essential systems offline. It had been heavily damaged, attacked multiple times, by both the weather and other aircraft. "Picking up four Mosquitos, inbound." Doop looked over the sensor boards, sitting at the technician position. "Neutral Galaxy, this is Conglomerate Patrol Alpha Nine. Return to civilian airspace immediately." Rbstr tapped the communications panel. "Alpha Nine, we require medical assistance at Anguta. Transmitting security code now." There was a pause, and the voice continued. "Roger that, continue on your current course. We will escort you into the Capital." --- The Galaxy landed in a open space in the Dropship Center Courtyard, as the Force Dome reactivated. Ground crews locked the dropship down, as the commander of the base approached. The cargo bay door opened, and Rbstr stepped out, followed by xmodum. "This Galaxy contains three Terrans, two Vanu, both of you, and someone who appears to belong to all three empires. Would you like to explain why it's sitting in my courtyard?" The commander questioned. "We'll explain later, but we have a serious injury onboard." xmodum spoke up. "We'll handle it." The commander replied. "Come, this way. We have a lot to discuss." --- "Sir, we're picking up a strange weather pattern coming this way. We've never seen it before." The commander looked at the display. "What is that?" "Looks like a hurricane. They have them on Earth, but we've never had one here. Huge amounts of wind, storms, the lot." "How long?" "Less than half an hour. The force dome should protect us from the storm, but we have to prepare for a collapse." The commander nodded, and turned to Infernus, who was standing behind them. "Your Galaxy will be exposed during a collapse. We'll do our best to secure it." --- Sloan closed the Cargo Bay door, and headed for the main entrance. "Feeling better?" Doop asked, as he entered the main building. "Now that I don't have two holes in me, yeah, I suppose." Sloan replied, and turned around, looking out through the open door. The wind had picked up, and dark clouds were moving in quickly. "So, we're going to be stuck in here for a while." Sloan said, staring into the distance. "Fun." Sloan closed the main door, and sealed it via the control panel. --- |

Conclusion: Finale
Desolation, Day Five Anguta, Ceryshen "What's going on?" Sloan asked, as the lights in the room flickered, and then returned to normal. "Power flucations in the relays." The Conglomerate engineer replied. "Storm is screwing with euerything." She walked away, and left the room. Rbstr cut a piece of his slice of apple pie with a fork, and ate it. "We've been stuck here for five days straight." He cut another piece, swallowed, and continued. "This storm is ... wrong. Everything is wrong. Why is this happening?" Sloan tapped the PDA in his hand. "According to what I found, the Artifact is a control device. I don't know what it controls, but it could have to do with the weather." Rbstr continued to eat his pie. --- A Terran Republic Raider moved slowly through the water, broadcasting messages to civilians. "There is nothing to fear. Be alert when near damaged structures, as they may be weakened by the flood. If possible, remain indoors, or head for a higher elevation." The driver piloted the vehicle around a group of civilians, standing waist-high in the water. "What the hell is going on?" He asked his fellow officer, who was manning the PA. "I don't know." The man replied, shutting off the unit. "I do know I'm glad I'm not in this mess, though. Word is the entire Sanctuary is flooded, including the Military Villas." "Bah, the bloody planet is fighting with us, and we can't fight back." There was a strange sound of water crashing, and the driver looked around. "What was that?" Screaming sounds were heard nearby, and he stopped the Raider promptly, to try and see what was happening. He looked out through the rain, and saw nothing. "Something's happening." The other officer said, and started looking around as well. Civilians started running in front of them, crossing the flooded street as quickly as they could. "What are they doing?" The driver asked frantically. A Marauder flew through the air in front of them, followed by a group of assorted vehicles. A massive wave rushed in front, and started to head their way as well. "Go, go, go!" The officer shouted, and the driver gunned the engine, turning the transport around. He soon hit the maximum limit, and sped around floating vehicles. The officer turned around in his seat, looking out the back. "It's gaining on us!" "Going as fast as I can." The driver shot back, swerving to avoid a flying Harasser. The Raider moved into a junction, and the driver looked left, before freezing. "Oh, no." Another wave smashed into the side of the transport, flipping it over underwater. It sunk, and grinded against the submerged street. --- All over Auraxis, strange phenomena tore into the thirteen continents. Esamir vanished off the face of the planet. Cyssor broke apart, and slowly began to sink. The NC Sanctuary was ripped apart by meteor showers, while the caverns shook themselves apart, collapsing in. Ceryshen continued to be pounded with hurricanes, while Searhus froze over. A massive change had come over the planet, one that mankind had never imagined. They had never come close to beginning to understand Ancient Technology, and had unlocked something more powerful than their strongest weapon. They foolishly attempted to convert everything into a device of war, in an attempt to gain the upper hand in a eternal fight. The Auraxian core had seen all this, and responded. Desolation had begun. |
