Does anybody know if certain factions will have advantages in one area, while another will be better in a different area?

Yes. Different factions play differently.

VS-Precision (Accuracy and Manuverability)
TR-Speed (RoF and Movement)
NC-Heft (Heavy hitting and Damage Soaking)
