I think this mostly comes down to the connotation of the word "crafting" and it's proliferation in mostly RPG games. That said the Planetside 2 system is more an acquire system. You trade resources for a finished item. You don't really make it yourself.
You could have crafting as you stated in Planetside 2, but you just can't call it crafting. Take the RAGE game which has crafting of parts from materials. There was old threads where people were talking about loot and such from downed vehicles and enemies. That is they were asking for pieces to blow off of aircraft and vehicles that could be picked up. Others argued that it would make people run towards destroyed vehicles and distract people from the core gameplay. I think you're overthinking the word "craft".

So if any one asks you can say, "Oh yeah, Planetside 2 has lots of crafting" and get them into the game. Last edited by Tatwi; 2012-06-17 at 04:01 PM. |

Even a rudimentary crafting system will turn PS2 into this:
You: Help, base under heavy attack! Me: Yeah, hurry! Crafter1: #$#%^ i'm farming mats for grenade, brt when i'm done. Crafter2: Yeah, me too I need rubber for tire upgrades. brb in 20 minutes. You: We can't hold out that long! Crafter2: Crafter3: How do you make nickel? I have copper, iron and zinc. Crafter4: LFG Flax farming for armor. Crafter5: Wait where do you get those? Crafter4: North, all the way near the Vanu base Crafter6: Invite me! I need Flax You: .... |

Fighting gets you certification points, the ground you take from fighting gets you resources. Every class, gun, vehicle and piece of equipment can be certed out and specialized to an insane degree, and you use the resources to build your vehicles and get your gear.
There's plenty of RPG mechanics already. Last edited by GhettoPrince; 2012-06-17 at 04:59 PM. |
