It's one thing when MOST of the community is on a fansite simply because an official PS2 forum isn't open to the public (Guild Wars 2 doesn't even have an official forum, what choice is there?) It's a little different once the official forums of a game become open, but that's also entirely dependent on where a bulk of the forum base spends their time screaming at each other.

Honestly, I expect once those forums go public, most new users to Planetside will be going to the official forums for their information/complaints/trolling/drunken rants/soft-core porn postings at 2 a.m. in the morning just see if the mods are awake and paying attention.

The thing is, official forums, much like the PS1 forums (shudder) are very loosely moderated and generally full of the dregs of the community.

At least in places like this they can be a little more intimately moderated.

I'll probably lurk here for a while and gradually transfer over, and then in time, be on no forums. Pre-release and server down time are the only time most forums interest me at all.

Probably won't for the day to day. I usually just check this to see if there's any news. If I have problems or the servers are down and I'm waiting for word when they will be back up, sure.

Honestly the opening of the official forums will make it so the majority of new folks and attention whores will go there and PSU will be more used by seasoned involved community members just like its always been.

I'll definitely stick around. PSU feels more like a home than most other forums I've visited, official or otherwise.

I have indeed noticed a correlation between the personalities of the posters stating they going to the official forums.
I'm a new comer, but hopefully no one minds if I stick around.

And thats why ill stay here. Look at the BF3 forums as a prime example. They are terrible but there are many really good forums on community driven sites.
