Somebody really should organize something where everybody has a chance to put in $10 and chooses a date. Closest to actual release date gets all the cash.

I have to admit that not having a beta date even hinted at during Fan Faire gives me some concerns. The teaser trailer looks great, but I'd think if beta had any shot before the end of the year they would have said as much.

The game doesn't have to be finished for the beta to begin. All they have to do is get all the weapons working and they can begin weapon balance testing en masse.

Why wait to have everything finished when you can test weapons out sooner? You don't need the mission system to balance weapons, for example.

Also, you're ignoring the fact that they stated they are currently far more finished with the game than the trailer shows.

Yeah, but it doesn't make sense to balance the weapons if the class trees aren't finished or the weapon mods system doesn't work properly yet or the maps aren't laid out and at least functional to some point or any of the number of secondary and tertiary things you really need to have.

Just like it doesn't make sense to wait until it's done it doesn't make sense to drop people on an empty expanse of nothing and have them shoot at each other. Situations have a large impact on balance.
