Also, bombs need to be able to be shot down with flak to allow people on the ground some defense against flight ceiling bombing.
All they have to do is implement some sort of zoom toggle IR scope for the bomber. Kinda like in COD with the AC-130. I'm getting goosebumps thinking about it.

Would love to see laser designation similar to this:

Note, this is when you lase for yourself. Also want to see infantry lasing.

I'm stoked!

The canon is highly effective at LOW altitudes but you're not going to hover around bases like you saw in E3 demo in Beta. Once the pops get in there its going to be an AA nightmare over proper bases.

Enter high altitude carpet bombing.

haha!

So no-one's hoping for the return of the PS1 bombing style? Had to fly absolutely straight and level like forever!

Oh, and I hope the pilot gets to drop the bombs this time, not the bombardier.

I can't find my post, but (I think) arclegger tweeted weeks ago about loading bombs into his liberator.

I feel like it's still a little vague as well. But I wouldn't mind seeing bombs make some form of return.

If not, the mortar canon is more than enough for me. That thing looked like a lot of fun. Hooray for sky tanks.

What qualities does a bomb have at high altitude that the cannon didn't supply?

different tactics can be employed. you won't see a high altitude bomber coming.

also more surgical strikes. If we are able to zoom we can definitely place a bomb in the heart of the enemy and not worry about dying.

Support from high altitude > support from low altitude unless you're zerging

I think the GG should be a bomber instead.

They way the mortar was eating people during the live streams seemed plenty adequate to me. I wasn't saying, "Man nice mortaring!" while watching it... I was saying, "Yea! Bomb them mothers!."

Cheers...

This is why air-superiority and/or air cover is so important. If you're getting lib spammed at a tower (typical in PS1) all it takes is a mossi or two to bring it down real quick. Also, I didn't see any range limitations on the HA lock-on rockets, so again seems like a bit of a non-issue.

Overall, very happy that libs will still be bombers. +1 <3

I'm not even touching this one until I've seen it in action.

The one thing I will say is: people who say this thing or that thing will dominate everyone, aren't remembering combined arms. If the game is balanced well enough (looking like it will be so far IMO) there will always be a counter.

Re: Planetside 2 Liberator Bombing Confirmed!

Even though alot of people didnt like the driver on tanks getting the main gun. Im hoping something similar happens for libs with bombing.

Im hoping there are 2 options.

Gunship Lib, Pilot, Main Gunner, Tail Gunner

Bomber Lib. Pilot (who loses main cannon but now has access to dropping bombs, Main gunner spot is removed in place of bomb bay, tail gunner.

I remember in PS1, even during heavy play times, sometimes I just could not get a full crew from my liberator that would stick around for more than 1 pass. So having the options to go bomber route when your 1 guy short and let the pilot have the option to do some decent damage seems nice to me.
